Hadrian’s Villa

    Hadrian’s Villa

Hadrian’s Villa, about 25 km (15 miles) from Rome, is one of the most spectacular imperial palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Built by Emperor Hadrian between 126 and 138 AD over an area of 120 hectares (297 acres), the villa is a masterpiece showcasing the finest ancient Mediterranean architecture and sculpture.

The villa reproduces the places and buildings that most impressed the Emperor on his travels, such as the Lyceum and the Platonic Academy in Athens, the Canopus Canal on the Nile Delta and the Vale of Tempe in Thessaly.
