During the days of Imperial Rome they built some of the city’s most majestic monuments including four barracks for gladiators close to the Coliseum, where the hotel stands today. The remains of the largest of these, the 'Ludus Magnus' which was the ancient gymnasium, were discovered in 1937 between the Via Labicana and the Via San Giovanni in Laterano.
Behind this ancient settlement in 1500 there was the 'Casino Guidi', a hunting lodgein the Guidi Gardens. In 2002 the historic building has been transformed, thanks to the restoration desired by the Engineer and Count Manfredi Goffredo, in a refined and exclusive hotel.
